18-Year-Old Man Arrested for Attempted Murder

GREELEY, Colo. – On Saturday, August 26, 2023, Greeley Police officers were dispatched to reports of a shooting in the 500 block of North 11th Avenue. While enroute, officers learned the male suspect fled the scene in a vehicle.

Multiple officers arrived on scene while others mounted a search for the suspect. Officers on scene immediately began performing life-saving measures on both victims until medical units arrived.

One victim, a 19-year-old male, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, but is expected to survive due to the life-saving measures taken by responding officers. The other victim, a 25-year-old man, was also transported to a local hospital and was later pronounced deceased.

A short time later, deputies with the Weld County Sheriff’s Office located the suspect vehicle driving in West Greeley. Multiple Greeley Police officers responded, and a high-risk traffic stop was performed. The suspect, 18-year-old Jesus Balderas, was taken into custody without incident.

Balderas was transported to the Weld County Jail and booked on charges of Criminal Attempt First Degree Murder and First Degree Assault. He is currently being held on a two-million-dollar bond. The investigation into the homicide is still on-going.

No additional information will be released today. The identity of the deceased victim will be released later pending the continued investigation. Anyone with information about this case is asked to please contact Detective Prill at 970-350-9532.
