21-Year-Old Man Arrested for Attempted Murder After Shooting Into Crowd

GREELEY, Colo. – On Monday, September 30, at approximately 12:11 AM, Greeley Police Officers were on patrol in the area of 36th Avenue and 10th Street, ensuring a group of auto enthusiasts kept their large gathering safe and lawful. As nearly 60 people were standing outside of their vehicles conversing, a vehicle drove by and fired several shots toward the crowd before speeding away. Those officers immediately went after the suspect vehicle while requesting additional units respond to the shooting scene to check on injuries of bystanders.

Officers followed the suspect vehicle from a distance as they coordinated additional Greeley Police assets to their location. A marked patrol vehicle attempted to initiate a high-risk traffic stop on the suspect vehicle at 17th Avenue and the Highway 34 Bypass. The suspect vehicle immediately fled south from officers, who pursued due to the attempted homicides that had just occurred.

An officer stopped in the 1600 block of Highway 34 successfully deployed stop sticks, flattening the vehicle tires. Multiple Greeley Police officers pursued the suspect’s vehicle as it continued to flee. At Highway 85 and 42nd Street, the suspect lost control and crashed into a power pole. The occupants were detained without incident and later identified as suspect and driver, Alberto Corona (21), and passenger Kimberly Barron (20). Corona was transported to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries sustained in the traffic accident.

Alberto Corona was medically cleared to be booked into jail and transported to the Weld County Jail. Corona was charged with the following:
– Attempted First Degree Murder (Extreme Indifference to Human Life)
– Vehicular Eluding
– Driving While Revoked as a Habitual Traffic Offender
– Previous Offender in Possession of a Weapon
– Driving an Unregistered Motor Vehicle
– Displaying a Fictitious License Plate

Officers later confirmed that nobody at the gathering was struck by the gunfire. At this time, Kimberly Barron has not faced any criminal charges as a result of this incident. No further information will be released today.
