Auto Theft Operation Uncovers a Chop Shop and 5 Stolen Vehicles

GREELEY, Colo. – On Friday, September 16, detectives from the Colorado State Patrol BATTLE North Team conducted a large-scale auto theft operation. BATTLE (Beat Auto Theft Through Law Enforcement) is a multi-agency team of detectives, including some from the Greeley Police Department, that investigate auto theft and auto theft related crimes across Northern Colorado.

Colorado was ranked #1 in the nation for auto thefts in 2021 and also in the first 6 months of 2022 (January – June). BATTLE North’s mission is to reduce the number of auto thefts through education and enforcement as well as increase the amount of recovered stolen vehicles that can be returned to their owners.

On Friday, BATTLE North recovered two stolen Hyundai’s at different locations in Greeley. Both vehicles were unoccupied when they were located and had a total value of $56,505. Both vehicles were processed for additional evidence and returned to their owners.

The team also located a motorcycle chop shop that was operating from inside a storage unit located in the 3500 block of 29th Street. A search warrant was secured and a total of 4 motorcycles were recovered from the location. A fifth motorcycle was recovered from the chop shop as well on a different date. The detectives dismantled the illegal operation and that investigation is still on-going.

No additional information will be released today. Anyone with information about this case is asked to please contact the Greeley Police Department front desk at 970-350-9605.
