Community Service Officers
Community Service Officers (CSO’s) are non-sworn, unarmed civilian officers that have a limited commission within the City of Greeley and perform several vital tasks. We utilize our CSO’s to respond to lower priority “cold” police calls in which the suspects are no longer on scene, the crime is no longer actively happening, and there is no danger to anybody on scene.
Our CSO’s respond to non-injury traffic accidents where they are often the lead investigators. They assist at serious traffic accidents in multiple ways including evidence collection and traffic control. They are also often sent to calls in the city that are more service-centered and not likely to require any law enforcement action.
Community Service Officers are commissioned to investigate municipal ordinance violations and municipal traffic violations, including the ability to issue appropriate citations when needed. By having this invaluable resource available, it allows our sworn police officers to respond to more serious in-progress calls, conduct follow-up on previous cases, and be more proactive in our community.
In addition to assisting our sworn officers on the streets, there are CSO’s assigned to our Peer Support Team, Investigations Unit, K9 Unit, Traffic Unit, Neighborhood Act Team, Drug Task Force, Fleet Maintenance and Public Information Office at the Front Desk. Our CSO’s are not just useful, but crucial to providing better, more efficient, and more cost-effective enforcement options for our community.
If this is an emergency, please call 911.
