Greeley Police Deputy Chief Jason Edwards Graduates from the FBI National Academy

GREELEY, Colo. – We are proud to announce Greeley Police Deputy Chief Jason Edwards has attended and graduated from the prestigious FBI National Academy – Session #292. Deputy Chief Edwards was at the academy for 11-weeks, which ran from September 12, 2024 to December 12, 2024. This remarkable achievement is a true testament to Deputy Chief Edwards’ on-going dedication to the law enforcement profession, leadership capabilities, and commitment to excellence in an already stellar career.

The FBI National Academy, located in Quantico, Virginia, is renowned worldwide for its rigorous and comprehensive training program designed for law enforcement leaders from thousands of different agency-types. It is a highly selective program, and only a small percentage of law enforcement officers are chosen to participate. The FBI National Academy focuses on advanced investigative skills, effective management techniques, and fitness training, a crucial component for effective law enforcement leadership in today’s complex and ever-changing law enforcement landscape.

Deputy Chief Edwards underwent 10 weeks of intensive training alongside 256 other law enforcement professionals hailing from 48 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, 27 countries, eight military organizations, and five federal civilian organizations. FBI National Academy Participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to attend. On average, these officers have 21 years of law enforcement experience and usually return to their agencies to serve in executive-level positions.

This experience provided Deputy Chief Edwards with unparalleled opportunities to enhance his skills in several key areas of law enforcement, including:
1. Leadership Development: Strengthening leadership qualities and strategic thinking skills to better manage and guide our police force.
2. Advanced Investigative Techniques: Learning the latest methods and technologies in criminal investigations to improve our department’s investigative capabilities.
3. Communication and Outreach: Enhancing communication skills to foster better community relations with the officers of the Greeley Police Department as well as the citizens and visitors of Greeley.
4. Physical Fitness and Mental Wellness: Focusing on personal health and wellness to ensure he’s setting the standard for the Greeley Police Department and maintaining peak physical condition for duty.

FBI Director Christopher Wray delivered remarks at the ceremony. Class spokesperson Philip Hydron, from the Arkansas State Police in Forrest City, AR, represented the graduating officers.

FBI Academy instructors, special agents, and other staff with advanced degrees provide the training; many instructors are recognized internationally in their fields. Since 1972, National Academy students have been able to earn undergraduate and graduate credits from the University of Virginia, which accredits all the National Academy courses offered. A total of 55,797 graduates have completed the FBI National Academy since it began in 1935.

Attending the FBI National Academy is a significant honor that reflects the Greeley Police Department’s continuing commitment to the professional development and excellence of our agency’s leaders. The knowledge and skills Deputy Chief Edwards acquired during his time at the academy will greatly benefit our department and the citizens of Greeley for years to come. His participation in this challenging academy will help us to implement policing best practices, improve our operations, and allow the Greeley Police Department to continue building a safer and stronger community for everyone.
