Greeley Police Open Criminal Investigation After Death of 4-Year-Old

GREELEY, Colo. – On Sunday, April 14th, officers were dispatched to a home in the 1800 block of 18th Avenue on a report of a traffic accident with injuries. While officers, and emergency medical services, were en route to the address, they were updated that a small child was pinned under the vehicle.

Officers and EMS arrived on scene and the 4-year-old child was immediately transported to a local hospital with severe injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later. Due to various reasons, including the traumatic injuries sustained by the child, Greeley Police requested both our Investigations Unit and Traffic Unit to collectively lead the death investigation.

A 36-year-old female was injured by the same vehicle during the incident and was also transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. The adult female is expected to survive. There was also one additional adult female and another juvenile that were not injured during the incident.

The incident is still under investigation and as of this release no arrests have been made. There is no danger to the community, and this was a contained incident. Because the investigation is still active and involves juveniles, we will not be releasing any further information. The identity of the deceased child will be released by the Weld County Coroner pending next of kin notifications.

If you have any information on this case, and have not already been interviewed by officers, please contact the Greeley Police Department at 970-350-9605 or Detective Blair at 970-350-9680.
