Greeley Police Search For Driver That Fled After Fatally Striking Pedestrian
GREELEY, Colo. – On February 4, at 8:20 p.m., Greeley Police Officers, Greeley Fire Fighters, and medics were dispatched to the intersection of 35th Avenue and 4th Street on reports that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian in the cross walk. Officers were notified that the vehicle fled the scene prior to their arrival without stopping to render aid or check on the victim.

When first responders arrived on scene, they located a 53-year-old male with severe injuries. The male was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The victim’s identity will be released at a later date by the Weld County Coroner, pending next-of-kin notification. Due the seriousness of the accident, the Greeley Police Department Traffic Unit immediately responded to investigate.

The run vehicle that struck the pedestrian was described by multiple witnesses as a black, 4-door pickup truck, possibly a Dodge Ram 1500, that is a likely a 2008 model year or newer. The truck has chrome trim down the sides as well. The truck may also have damage at the front driver’s side. After the collision, the truck immediately fled the scene southbound on 35th Avenue at a high rate of speed.

We are asking home and business owners in the area around 35th Avenue and 4th Street check their surveillance systems from 8:00 p.m. to 8:45 p.m., including neighborhood side streets. If you find video footage, have additional information about this case, or witnessed any portion of it, please contact Officer Tharp or Officer Wegscheider at 970-350-9533.
