Greeley SWAT Team utilized to arrest barricaded escapee

On Thursday, July 1st, 2021 at approximately 3:34 PM Greeley Police officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 1800 block of 30th Street reference a disturbance. An anonymous caller reported that 30-year-old Ramon Hetzel was at this location causing a disturbance.

Officers arrived on scene and eventually several persons came out of the apartment and confirmed that Hetzel was still inside. Officers also discovered that Hetzel had an active felony escape warrant from the Department of Corrections and were told he was possibly armed with a knife.

More officers arrived to assist and the apartment was subsequently surrounded to prevent an escape attempt. Multiple apartments close to the call location were also evacuated as a precaution. Announcements were made several times for Hetzel to surrender, but to no avail. Eventually a search warrant was secured and the Greeley SWAT Team was called in to assist.

Technical munitions were deployed by the SWAT Team and Hetzel came out and complied with commands. Hetzel was taken into custody without incidence. No injuries were sustained by Hetzel or the officers on scene. Hetzel was transported to the Weld County Jail and booked on the outstanding warrant as well as a parole hold.
