On January 1st, 2021, the Greeley Police Department and the Weld County Sheriff’s Office will diverge their joint operations of criminal justice records and evidence handling and storage. With the unprecedented growth experienced in both the City of Greeley and Weld County and throughout the northern Colorado area, sharing of these services is longer beneficial to either agency.
The joint business model was adopted in 1993, during times when both agencies were smaller, and it made sense to combine these functions. Since then, the Greeley Police Department has provided evidence and records services to the Sheriff’s Office on a contract basis. For many years, this joint model worked well and was fiscally responsible for both agencies. The steadily rising workloads for both the police department and the sheriff’s office and the resulting impacts on evidence and records caused the administration of both organizations to examine the feasibility of continuing a joint operation of these functions.
The separation was determined to be the best option.
Effective January 1st, 2021, at 12:01 a.m., the operations will officially separate. The Greeley Police Department Records Section will move from the current location, 1551 N. 17th Ave., #3, to 2875 W. 10th Street, Police Headquarters. Weld County Records will remain and operate at the North 17th Avenue location.
Greeley Police Records will be open to the public between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Records may be reached 970-350-9677 between these hours. The Records customer service window will remain closed until January 11th, 2021.
Evidence functions for the Greeley Police Department are not changing with this separation. Public access to the Evidence Section is located at 810 30th Ave. Evidence is open Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Evidence may be reached by calling 970-350-9646.
Weld County Sheriff’s Office Records will remain and operate at the 1551 N. 17th Ave., #3 location.
