On Tuesday, November 30 at approximately 8:23 p.m. officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 900 block of 52nd Avenue Court reference a stabbing-in-progress. While en route to the scene,
officers were told the suspect had fled the area on foot. Based on that information, and the nature of the call, a reverse 911 message was sent out asking residents in the immediate area to shelter in place and to lock their doors and window for their safety.
Officers arrived on scene shortly after and found the 27-year-old male victim bleeding from multiple stab wounds. Fire and EMS units arrived shortly after and quickly transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.
Greeley Police Detectives took over the investigation and have obtained an arrest warrant for Jonathan Mikel Islas, 22, for Murder in the first degree and Tampering with physical evidence.
The identity of the victim is being withheld until next-of-kin notification have been made. The decedent’s identity may be released at a later time by the Weld County Coroner.
We have no reason to believe there is an ongoing danger to anyone else in the community as this appears to be a targeted incident. However, if you see Islas, call 911 immediately and do not
approach him. No additional information will be released today.
If you have any information on this case, have surveillance footage that may have captured the incident, or Islas fleeing the area of 9th Street and 52nd Avenue Court on foot, please contact
Greeley Police Detective Onderlinde at 970-350-9676.
