Shooting Investigation
On Friday, October 9th at 07:00 AM, Greeley police officers responded to 3103 23rd ave, Wal-Mart, on report of a shooting. The information received was that two male suspects had fired multiple rounds at each other. Officers arrived on scene quickly and contacted one of the suspects, and the other was contacted a short time later. Both were transported to the Greeley police department to be interviewed, along with several citizens who witnessed the incident.
The preliminary investigation has revealed that the subjects knew each other through work and the shooting was the result of an earlier physical altercation between the two. The motive of the shooting is unclear at this point. Officers investigating found over twenty shell casings at the scene, and one citizen was in his vehicle when one of the errant bullets struck his windshield. There were several other unattended vehicles struck during the violent gun battle. Neither suspect and no innocent bystanders were injured during the incident.
Both suspects are from out-of-state and have been identified as Jewan Satcher (03/28/96) and Sheldon Nails (10/03/97).
Satcher was charged with: Engaging in a riot, Fighting by Agreement-Dueling, Reckless Endangerment (4 counts), Illegal discharge of a firearm, and Prohibited use of a weapon.
Nails was charged with: Engaging in a riot, Fighting by Agreement-Dueling, Reckless Endangerment (4 counts), Illegal discharge of a firearm, and Prohibited use of a weapon.
Due to the Weld County jails new booking policies, neither suspect was able to be booked into jail. Because the suspects were from out-of-state and the violent nature of this incident, the Greeley Police Department made a special request to have these suspects booked into jail, and that request was denied by Weld County jail staff. The suspects were released, and charges will be filed with the District Attorney’s office. No further details will be released today
The investigation is active and on-going. There is no immediate threat to the community. If you have any details on the shooting and have not been interviewed by Greeley police, please contact Detective John Kinne at 970-31-8717 or the Greeley police department front desk at 970-350-9605.
