GREELEY, Colo. – On Monday, October 9, at 10:22 p.m., the Greeley Police Department was dispatched to a home in the 1100 block of 15th Street on reports that a man had shot his roommate.
Greeley Police Officers and medical personnel immediately responded to the scene and discovered a 55-year-old male in the backyard with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers provided a rescue team, performed life-saving measures, and then extracted the victim from the yard. The victim was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. He is currently in stable condition and is expected to survive.
A reverse 911 was sent out to nearby residents to shelter in place during the incident. A perimeter was established around the home and the Greeley SWAT Team was activated. During repeated attempts to convince the male to exit the residence, a gunshot was heard from inside the basement of the home.
Communications were established with the suspect, who had barricaded himself in a basement room. The suspect threatened to shoot officers if any attempts were made to apprehend him.
The GPD Investigations Unit assisted by obtaining a search warrant for the home. A single gunshot was then heard inside the home and upon entry by Greeley SWAT, the suspect was found deceased. The coroner’s office will release the identity of the suspect at a later date.
No additional information will be released today. Anyone with information about this case is asked to please contact Detective John Kinne at 970-350-9603.
