Two arrested, none injured, in shooting investigation

GREELEY, Colo. – On Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at 1:32 a.m., Greeley Police officers were initially dispatched to the 600 block of 23rd Avenue reference a shooting investigation. Officers later discovered the actual shooting took place in the 5600 block of 10th Street, shortly before the victims called 911.

The preliminary investigation shows that Lionel Gonzalez-Mora, 24, was in an argument with two victims, a 35-year-old male and a 24-year-old female. All the parties were initially at the Days Inn hotel, located at 5630 W. 10th Street, but after one of the victims left the hotel on foot, the other victim drove to the walking victim to give them a ride.

At some point during this, Gonzalez-Mora and Katherine Pineda, 23, returned to the area where the victims were, and the parties continued arguing. During the second confrontation, Gonzalez-Mora fired multiple shots at the victims and the vehicle they were in/nearby. Gonzalez-Mora and Pineda then quickly fled the scene in their car, with the victims following in their own car whilst calling 911. Nobody was injured in the shooting.

Eventually, the suspects got away from the victims. The victims then went to a safe place where officers met them. Officers later found the suspect vehicle parked at the Days Inn lot and set up a perimeter on the hotel to make contact with the suspects.

Before that could occur, the suspects attempted to leave the hotel of their own volition as officers were still on scene. Gonzalez-Mora and Pineda were both quickly taken into custody without incident. Both suspects booked into the Weld County Jail. Gonzalez-Mora was charged with:
· Criminal Attempt to Commit 2nd Degree Murder (x2) – F3
· Domestic Violence Restraining Order Violation (x4) – M1
· Domestic Violence Felony Menacing – F5
· Felony Menacing – F5
· Reckless Endangerment (x2) – M3
· Possession of a Weapon by Previous Offender (POWPO) – F5

The investigation also revealed the Pineda had purchased the firearm and provided it to Gonzalez-Mora, who is prohibited from legally possessing a weapon. Because of this, Pineda was charged with:
· Unlawful Purchase of a Firearm – F5

No additional information will be released today.
