Two Vehicle Accident Results in Two Fatalities and One Seriously Injured

GREELEY, Colo. – On Wednesday, September 18, shortly before midnight, a Greeley Police Officer on patrol came across a serious two-vehicle accident at the intersection of 11th Avenue and the Highway 34 Bypass involving a motorcycle and passenger car. The officer immediately summoned additional police units and medics to the scene to assist.

The driver of the motorcycle, an adult male, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver and passenger of the second vehicle were both extricated and transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The adult female passenger died at the hospital a short time a later. The second driver, an adult male, is still in the hospital with serious life-threatening injuries.

Due to the seriousness of the accident, the Greeley Police Department Traffic Unit responded to the scene and will be the primary investigators on the case. The investigation revealed that an officer with the Garden City Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the motorcycle in the 2700 block of 8th Avenue. The motorcyclist failed to yield and immediately accelerated at a high rate of speed. The Garden City Police officer ceased further efforts to pursue the motorcyclist and the rider eventually turned westbound onto the Highway 34 Bypass, rapidly accelerating before colliding with the passenger car less than a minute later.

The identities of the deceased and injured victims, as well as the deceased motorcycle rider, will be released at a later time, pending next-of-kin notification by the Weld County Coroner. If you have any information about this case and have not spoken with an officer, please call the Greeley Police Department at (970) 350-9605.
