UPDATE – 19th Judicial District Investigates Police Shooting in Weld County, CO

WELD COUNTY, Colo. – This is an update to a previous press release produced on October 27, 2024. When deputies arrived on scene, they encountered an adult male suspect, later identified as Joe Sanchez, 18, who was armed with a firearm. Sanchez then proceeded to discharge that firearm while deputies were on scene and a Weld County Deputy fired his service weapon at Sanchez, striking him twice. Deputies rendered aid and also summoned medical personnel to the scene.

Sanchez was immediately transported to a local hospital for the gunshot injuries he sustained. The 19th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) was activated and responded to lead the investigation into the incident.
