Shooting Investigation
UPDATE:
Throughout this homicide investigation, the Greeley Police Department has worked closely with the Weld County District Attorney’s Office. After reviewing all the evidence of this case, it has been determined no charges will be filed. The shooter has an affirmative defense of self-defense, leading both agencies to decline criminal charges. The People could not disprove initial aggressor and self-defense as defined in C.R.S. 18-1-704. A person is allowed to use deadly force if he reasonably believes lesser force is inadequate, and he believes he is in danger of death or great bodily injury.
Both deceased males were identified by the Weld County Coroner as Elijah Joziah Duran, age 20, and Deionte Lashay Dior Johnson-Smith, age 19.
