Weld County Deputy Investigation

On Monday, April 11th, 2022, the Greeley Police Department started a criminal investigation into a Weld County Deputy, John Maedel, in reference to allegations of domestic violence, stalking and harassment. The identity of the victim in this investigation will not be revealed due to the nature of the case.

On Friday, April 8th, 2022, a temporary protection order was issued restraining Maedel from contacting the victim. After the Weld County Sheriff’s Office learned of the protection order, a request was made to the Greeley Police Department to complete an investigation into circumstances surrounding the issuance of the protection order.

The investigation revealed the Victim began receiving numerous text messages and phone calls from Maedel starting in December of 2021. The alleged behavior progressed to Maedel following the Victim and making threatening comments causing the Victim to fear for her safety.

On April 14th, 2022, the Greeley Police Department arrested Maedel on suspicion of stalking, harassment, and domestic violence. Maedel was booked into the Weld County Jail on these charges.

No additional information will be released today.

If you have any information on this case and have not been interviewed by officers, please contact Sergeant Josh Dice at 970-350-9683.
