GREELEY, Colo. – On Thursday, December 15, 2022, at approximately 5:10 a.m., Greeley Police officers were dispatched to a home in the 200 block of 9th Avenue on reports that two people had been stabbed. While officers were en route, information was relayed by dispatchers that the unknown suspect had fled the scene.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Susan Lucero, 41, and her 10-year-old son both suffering from multiple stab wounds. Both were transported to a local hospital with serious wounds and are now in stable condition. Greeley Police Major Crime detectives, evidence technicians, and detectives from other divisions were all called to assist.
The investigation revealed that there was no unknown suspect and that it appears Lucero stabbed her child, and then herself. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Lucero for multiple charges including attempted murder in the first degree.
On December 18, Lucero was cleared from the hospital and transported to the Weld County Jail where she was booked in violation of:
• Attempted First Degree Murder, a Class 2 Felony
• First Degree Assault, a Class 3 Felony
• Child Abuse Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, a Class 3 Felony
• Felony Menacing, a Class 5 Felony
The charges are merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until, or unless, proven guilty. No additional information will be released today. Anyone with information about this case is asked to please contact Detective Radin at 970-350-9671.
